In accordance with the state, no student shall be required to take or participate in the comprehensive sex education unit. A student’s parent or guardian may optionally request their student be pulled out of the comprehensive sex education unit by submitting the request in writing to their instructor at least 1 week prior to the unit.
Students who opt-out of the human development unit will be moved to an alternate location for the duration of the unit. Students will be assigned a personal health project aligned to the ISBE and National Health Standards to complete during this unit while they are in that location. Students will receive a grade equivalent to the weight of the human development unit for this project. Students who fail to complete this project on time will receive a failing grade for the unit.
Parents and guardians will be notified at least 2 weeks prior to the unit being taught through Powerschool contacts by the instructor.
