Parent & Family Engagement Plan

Argo Community High School District 217 Parent and Family Engagement Plan Title I, Part A

Argo Community High School District 217 is committed to building strong, meaningful partnerships with parents and families to support student achievement. As a Title I Schoolwide program, the District recognizes that family engagement is a critical component of student success and works to ensure that all families have opportunities to be informed, involved, and engaged in their child’s education.

Shared Responsibility for Student Achievement

Argo believes that education is a shared responsibility among students, families, and school staff. The District works to provide families with the information and resources needed to support learning at home while maintaining high expectations for all students. Through consistent communication and access to academic information, families are able to monitor student progress and remain actively involved.

School Parent Compact

Argo Community High School District 217, in partnership with families, has developed a School Parent Compact that outlines how the school, parents, and students will share responsibility for improving student academic achievement.

  • The District will: Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment; communicate regularly with families regarding student progress; provide opportunities for parent involvement; and ensure access to staff and resources that support student success.
  • Parents and families will: Support their child’s learning by monitoring attendance and academic progress; communicate with teachers and staff as needed; encourage completion of assignments and responsible use of time; and participate in school events and engagement opportunities when possible.
  • Students will: Take responsibility for their learning by attending school regularly, completing assignments, seeking help when needed, and engaging positively in the school community.

The School Parent Compact is reviewed and shared with families annually and is reinforced through ongoing communication between home and school.

Communication and Access to Information

The District is committed to maintaining clear, consistent, and two way communication with families. Parents have access to student grades, attendance, and school updates through PowerSchool and the District website. Teachers and administrators communicate regularly through email, phone calls, and conferences. Translation and interpretation services are available as needed to ensure all families can access important information.

Title I information, including program details and parent rights, is shared annually through the District website, parent meetings, and school communications. Parents are encouraged to reach out to administrators and staff with questions or feedback at any time.

Opportunities for Parent Involvement

Argo provides multiple opportunities for families to engage with the school community. These include Parent Teacher Conferences, the annual Parent Student Handbook Meeting, and various school events throughout the year. The District also maintains a Parent Equity Group, which provides a forum for families to share input and perspectives on improving equity and access for all students.

In addition, the Bilingual Parent Advisory Council meets regularly to support families of English Learners by providing information, resources, and a space for feedback in a more accessible setting.

Building Capacity for Engagement

The District works to build the capacity of both staff and families to support student success. Staff receive ongoing professional development on effective family engagement practices, cultural responsiveness, and communication strategies. Families are provided with resources and information related to academic expectations, graduation requirements, college and career planning, and digital tools used in the classroom.

Programs such as Argo After Hours, the Argo Mentor Program, and the College and Career Resource Center also provide opportunities for families to stay connected to their child’s academic progress and future planning.

Coordination with Other Programs

Family engagement efforts are coordinated across Title I, Title II, Title III, and other District initiatives to ensure consistency and alignment. This includes outreach to families of English Learners, students with disabilities, and students experiencing homelessness, ensuring that all families have equitable access to information and supports.

Evaluation and Continuous Improvement

The District will evaluate the effectiveness of this Parent and Family Engagement Plan on an annual basis. Feedback will be gathered through surveys, meetings, and stakeholder input, including the Parent Equity Group and Bilingual Parent Advisory Council. This feedback will be used to make improvements and ensure that engagement efforts remain responsive to the needs of families.

Accessibility

All engagement opportunities and communications will be provided in an understandable and uniform format, and to the extent practicable, in languages that families can understand. The District will provide accommodations as needed to ensure full participation for all families.
