Seal of Biliteracy

The Seal of Biliteracy is a state of Illinois recognition given to graduating Seniors who demonstrate high levels of proficiency in English and other languages. This is recognized on student transcripts and diplomas and is available to any student at Argo Community High School who has qualifying scores in English and another language. Students who earn the Seal of Biliteracy and attend Illinois state universities can get two years of foreign language credit. Please see below for information on qualifying scores.

Requirements for Earning the Seal of Biliteracy

 
  • ACT Score composite of 21 or 18 on the English Subject Area Test
  • SAT Score of 480 in English Language Arts (EBRW)
  • ACCESS Score of 4.8 Overall
  • AP English Language and Composition score of 5
  • AAPPL Test Score of Intermediate 5 or Advanced in all 4 domains
  • STAMP 4s Test Score of Intermediate High on all 4 domains
 
  • 4 or 5 on an AP Language and Culture Exam
  • AAPPL Test Score of Intermediate-5 or Advanced in all 4 domains 
  • STAMP 4s Test Score of Intermediate High on all 4 domains
  • Portfolio consisting of all 4 domains for a language in which a state approved test does not exist
 

Requirements for Earning the Commendation Towards Biliteracy

 
  • ACT Score composite of 21 or 18 on the English Subject Area Test
  • SAT Score of 480 in English Language Arts (EBRW)
  • ACCESS Literacy Score of 3.5 or above
  • AP English Language and Composition score of 4
  • AAPPL Test Score between Intermediate-1 and Intermediate-4 in all 4 domains
  • STAMP 4s Test Score of Intermediate Low on all 4 domains
 
 
  • 3 on an AP Language and Culture Exam
  • AAPPL Test score between Intermediate 1 and 4 in all 4 domains
  • STAMP 4s test score of Intermediate Low on all 4 domains
  • Portfolio consisting of all 4 domains for a language in which a state approved test does not exist
