Impromptu
- Impropmtu Assignment Handout

  - The impromptu should follow the same format as the informative and persuasive speech: introduction (attn-getter, thesis, P.O.M.P.); body; and conclusion (S.O.M.P. and clincher.
  - Body can have as its three main points: description; why it's my favorite; and a personal anecdote involving the topic.

Speech Lecture Notes:

Lecture notes are posted to help students with what I said in class. Some of the material on the lecture notes might come from different textbooks verbatim without citations. These are merely my notes to guide me through teaching. These notes cannot be used on an open note quiz, if there happens to be one. There should still be a reason why you are taking notes in class. I say a lot more than what appears on my notes.

- Encyclopedia Mythica -- Great place to find some interesting information for attention-getters. Think about using some folklore to get your audience thinking about a certain idea.
- Afro-American Almanac -- Great place for attention-getters and for brainstorming possible topics for informative speech. Find biographies on famous Aferican-Americans, African-American folklore, and African-American history.
- Encyclopedia of Religion -- Good place to brainstorm possible topics for speeches.
- Fact Monster -- Great place for attention-getters. Lots of interesting statistics. Also a good place to brainstorm possible speech topics.
Statistics
- Guinness World Records -- Excellent place for attention-getters. Imagine giving a demonstration speech on cookies. You could say that according to the Guinness World Record, the larget cookie ever made had a diameter of 81 feet 8 inches.
- Polling Report -- get statistics from various polls. Great for informative and persuasive speeches. Excellent resource for current events.
Poetry
- Poets.org -- Good place to find attention-getters. Imagine delivering an informative speech on divorce; this site has poems categorized by theme. You can perform a stanza from a poem about divorce. This is also an excellent site to find poetry for your oral interpretation speech.
- Song Lyric Server -- Good place to find possible attention-getters. Or you can look for a good song to use for your oral interpretation.
- Poem of the Week -- place to brainstorm for your oral interpretation speech.
